The general objective of this dissertation was to study the social health inequalities in the cervical and breast cancer screening in Peru. Two studies were completed: 1) association of health insurance with cervical smear test utilization, including social factors that can influence this relationship (i.e. educational level, socioeconomic status, ethnicity and residence area) and 2) examination of inequalities in the clinical breast examination by ethnicity. These studies found underscreened groups including uninsured women, with low educational level, low socioeconomic status, who lived in rural areas and indigenous women.
