Study abroad (SA) as an integral part of university studies is often seen by students, educators and institutions alike as an important means of boosting foreign language skills; yet, still little is known about how long of a stay abroad is long enough to see considerable gains in L2 proficiency. The present study explores the L2 oral development of a group of 47 adult learners of English as a foreign language who participated in SA programmes in English-speaking countries that differ in Length of stay (LoS).
