Understanding the ethical consumer. Collective and individual projects and derived meanings. An exploratory study in the cooperatives of responsible consumption

El objetivo de la tesis es hacer una contribución a la creciente línea de investigación del consumidor ético. Se estudia el comportamiento del consumidor ético tanto como proyecto grupal, como proyecto individual, buscando una perspectiva holística del fenómeno. Para ello, se aborda el estudio en cooperativas de consumo responsable mediante la metodología cualitativa de la Teoría Fundamentada en los Datos (Grounded Theory). Asimismo, diferentes métodos fueron empleados para la recogida de datos; observación, grupos de discusión, entrevistas en profundidad y análisis de documentos. La riqueza de los datos dio lugar a la manifestación de varios resultados; entre ellos una nueva definición del consumidor ético y un framework conceptual que describe la experiencia del comportamiento del consumidor ético en su totalidad.The objective of the present thesis was to make a contribution to the growing line of investigation of ethical consumer behaviour. The main focus was placed both on collective and individual ethical consumer projects aiming at a holistic and in-depth understanding of the phenomenon under study. To achieve this, the study took place in Responsible Consumption Cooperatives employing Grounded Theory methodology. Different research techniques were employed; observation, in-depth interviews, focus groups and documentary analysis. The richness of the data allowed the emergence of various findings; among them a new definition of the ethical consumer and a conceptual framework that describes the subjective ethical consumer experience in its totality
