Synthesis, electronic, infrared and Mossbauer spectroscopic studies of mixed ligand complexes of mono- and bis(N, N' –diethyldithio-carbamato) iron(III) with O, N and S containing chelating ligands and their thermal decomposition

849-854Two series of mixed ligand complexes of the general formulae Fe(dtc)2L and Fe(dtc) L2 where L = acetylacetone, 8-hydroxyquinoline, glycine, 1,10-phenanthroline, phenylalanine and thiomalic acid and dtc = N, N' -diethyldithiocarbamate have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, electronic and infrared spectra. Room temperature Mossbauer spectra of the complexes exhibit doublet with δ = 0.40-0.85 mms-1 and EQ = 0.21-1.64 mms-1. Magnetic moments of the complexes are in the range 3.74-5.78 B.M. suggesting equilibrium between high spin low spin crossover. Thermogravimetric studies suggest stability of the complexes upto 200°C after which they decompose in a single or two steps with 16.8-55.0% residue at 800°C. None of the complexes is volatile
