China and South Korea have seen a substantial growth in patent filing as compared to developed nations. Regarding India, the growth is minimal. The trend reveals that more patents in India are filed for formulations, dosage forms, combination drugs and mode of delivery. New drug discovery has moved away from chemical entities to biological moieties. India, though known for its significant contribution to pharmaceutical industry by way of generic drugs is yet to make a meaningful presence in the patent scenario
