Synthesis of polystyrene supported chelating re sin containing an oxygen-nitrogen donor bidentate schiff base and its nickel( II), cobalt(II), copper(II), iron(III), zinc(II , molybdenum(VI) and uranium(VI) complexes

58-62A new bidentate oxygen-nitrogen donor schiff base Supported on polystyrene matrix has been synthesized by the re action of aminomethylated polystyrene and salicylald hyde. The chelating resin reacts with metal complex/ metal salt and forms metal bound polymers of the formulae: PS-LNi(CH3COO)·3DMF, PSLCo( CH3 OO) ·DMF, PS-LCu(CH3COO) ·DMF, PSLCu( CH3 OO) ·CH3OH, PS-LFeCl2 ·2DMF, PSLZnCl· C3OH, PS-LCd(CH3COO) ·DMF, PSLCdCl·C3OH, PS-LMoO2(acetylacetonato) and PS-LCuO2( C 3COO) ·DMF (where PS-L=deprotonated anion of polymer-anchored ligand). The metal bound polymers ve been characterized by elemental analysis, JR, electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The complexes PSLNi( CH3 OO) ·3DMF, PS-LCo(CH3COO) ·DMF, PSLCu( CH3 OO) ·DMF, PS-LCu(CH3COO) ·CH3OH and PS- FeCl2·2DMF are paramagnetic while the Zn(II), C (II), Mo(VI) and U(VJ) complexes are diamagnetic. The Co(ll) and Cu(ll) complexes exhibit a square planar structure, whereas Ni(II), Fe(III), Mo(Vl) and U(V) complexes are octahedral and Zn(II) and Cd(II) com plexes are tetrahedral
