668-669Simple titrimetric methods for the determination of sulphonyl chlorides based on their reaction with benzyl mercaptan have been described. The estimation is carried put either by cerimetric titrations of the sulphinic acid formed in the reaction (after masking the residual mercaptan with acrylonitrile), or photometric titrations of the residual mercaptan with cobalt(II) at 475 nm. The methods are simple, accurate and are recommended for the routine analysis of sulphonyl chlorides
