1-4A hydrodynamic numerical model for generation and propagation of storm surge in Kalpakkam coastal waters has been used. Tropical cyclones originating in the Bay of Bengal supply the driving force for water level elevation near the shallow coast. The model, based on linearised vertically integrated momentum equations, has been modified to include different boundary conditions at the area of investigation. The calculations are presented in the form of a nomogram giving water peak levels as a function of storm intensity and its translational speed. Sufficient margin of safety is concluded from the linear surge model
