145-147The dependence of sporadic E occurrence on the sunspot number is studied by evaluating the correlation coefficient, and by finding out the significance of the correlation at different stations for different limiting values of fEs . The occurrence of sporadic E as well as the negative correlation of sporadic E occurrence with sunspot number reaches a maximum value around latitudes 25-30° in the intermediate latitude zone. A positive correlation exists between Es and sunspot number at high latitudes with no systematic variation with the limiting frequency. An attempt is made to explain these results
