185-187Published total electron content data monitored from geostationary satellite at several locations have bun used to study latitudinal variation of total electron content of the ionosphere (I). It has been found that I increase occasionally towards north in northern hemisphere and towards south in southern hemisphere, although higher values of magnetic activity have not been reported for such periods. It is conjectured that such enhancements are due to the larger influx of ionization from upper atmosphere
