234-237A miniature pinger device for use as an acoustic tag on medium size fish for studying its movement under water is discussed. The basic design considerations and construction details of a 75 kHz pinger tag are described. Acoustical performance characteristics and operational parameters of the tag are presented. Tag which weighs 12 g in water is estimated to be suitable for tagging on to 0.4 m or longer size fish. The tag has an acoustic source level sufficient for an estimated range of 400 m when tracked using a simple acoustic receiving system
