Effect of selective pretreatments and different resin post-treatments on jute-viscose upholstery fabric

It is observed that sequential texturing and bleaching treatments impart certain desirable property benefits over that imparted by only texturing or bleaching, particularly in respect of crease recovery, breaking extension, whiteness and brightness index, with marginal drop in tenacity. Post-treatments with urea-formaldehyde (UF), dimethyloldihydroxyethylene urea (DMDHEU), butylated urea formaldehyde <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;="" mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;="" mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:calibri;mso-bidi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;color:#111111;mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;="" mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">(<span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;="" mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;="" mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:calibri;mso-bidi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;color:black;mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;="" mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">BUF) or acrylamide formaldehyde (AMF) of sequentially pretreated fabric further reduce tenacity to the extent of 5-27%; the order of tenacity drop on resin finish being UF > DMDHEU > BUF > AMF. AMF resin finish results in substantial increase in the moisture regain of the pretreated fabric, while other resin finishes lead to lowering of moisture regain. With respect to improvement increase recovery the different resins stand in the order DMDHEU AMF > UF > BUF. Considering resin uptake, crease recovery, abrasion resistance, moisture regain, tensile properties and fabric stiffness, AMF resin finish rendered 60 : 40 jute-viscose fabrics notably better suited for upholstery application.
