Effect of selective pretreatments and subsequent N-methylol-acrylamide resin post-treatment on jute/cotton union furnishing fabric

131-139<span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%; font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:calibri;mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-latin;="" mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">The effects of mercerization-cum-chemical texturing with 18% (w/w) NaOH and bleaching with 6 or 4% (owf) H2O2( 50%) done separately and sequentially on all-jute and jute/cotton (75/25, w/w) union furnishing fabrics have been studied. It is observed that sequential texturing and bleaching treatments impart an improved overall balance in textile-related properties and render the fabrics more suited to subsequent resin finish, keeping the furnishing and related applications in view. A comparative study of the application of acrylamide. Formaldehyde (AMF) i.e. N-methylol-acrylamide,and dimethyloldihydroxyethylene urea (DMDHEU) on differently pretreated all-jute and jute/cotton furnishing fabrics has also been made. It is observed that AMP resin application on the sequentially pretreated all jute and jute/cotton fabrics produces an improved balance in the fabric properties not derivable through application of the conventional DMDHEU resin. Addition of controlled doses of acrylamide, and an emulsion formulation of acrylate polymers of low degree of polymerizations separately as additives in the AMF resin formulation imparts further improvement in the properties of the finished fabrics.
