243-248A new generation of multichannel GPS receivers having a provision of a second pulse output is available. This paper presents an improved technique to get precise time with the help of such GPS receiver. This technique is based on semi-empirical model utilising the error in instantaneous position co-ordinates from the precise co-ordinates known in advance. The paper elaborates the model. The detailed experimental observations show a remarkable improvement in time jitter to about 50 ns from the jitter of 140 ns as observed by the normal technique. This method may also be used for real time applications. </span
