This is an area where considerable efforts have been made to get into a standard practice. The subject could not escape Dr Ranganathan's attention and his analytical mind brought some fresh ideas to bear on it. The paper brings out Dr Ranganathan’s ideas and practices in this respect and their gradual evolution.
