583-586The cylindrical NX size Chunar sandstone samples are prepared from collected sandstone blocks of Chunar locality, District Mirzapur, U.P. These are submerged in water having different pH values. The water saturated samples of sandstone are deformed on close loop servo-controlled auto - feed back Material Testing System (MTS). The dry samples of sandstone are also deformed on the MTS. The experimental study suggests that the compressive strength, tensile strength, shear strength, and cohesive strength observed in sandstone increases with increases in pH of water, while the angle of friction decreases with increases in pH of saturated medium, i.e., water
