Although coke reflectance has good correlation with final carbonisation temperature, its determination is time consuming. As CV:FC ratio has been shown to ascertain the degree of devolatilisation in heat altered coals, as well as in laboratory prepared cokes/chars it is worthwhile to consider its utility for assessing the degree of carbonisation in industrial coking practice too.
