387-394<span style="letter-spacing:.1pt;mso-ansi-language: EN-US" lang="EN-US">This study has been undertaken to generate objective data regarding the thermo physiological comfort characteristics of fabrics used in the manufacturing of inner and outer layer fabrics worn by uniformed personnel in North India. Effect of layering fabrics with and without air gaps between them has been assessed to simulate the effect of a multilayered garment assembly. Results show that thermal insulation increases markedly when an inner layer is paired with an outer layer of fabric, although breathability is not affected much.
