Production of heptaene antifungal antibiotic by <i>Streptomyces purpeojuscus </i>CM 1261

342-345A strain of Streptomyces purpeofuscus CM 1261 isolated from a sample of compost collected locally was found to possess strong antagonistic activity against 4 human pathogenic fungi i.e., Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, Microsporum gypseum and Trichophyton sp.
