Reduction of the ketone and subsequent cyclodehydration produces 6-methoxy-1,4-dimethyltetralin 5. This on sulfur dehydrogenation furnishes 6-methoxy-1,4-dimethyl naphthalene 6. Reduction of the naphthalene derivative with sodium-ethanol affords 5,8-dimethyl-2-tetralone.</span
