261-270Tri-citation analysis mapping of Eugene Garfield’s Citation Image authors (those frequently co-cited with him) is used to identify the major research networks and topics that are linked to his highly cited publications in three successive decades, 1978-87, 1988-97, and 1998-2007. Major research topics that build on Garfield’s work— represented by Citation Image author “constellations”— include mapping of science, evaluative bibliometrics, scientometrics, webometrics, and sociology of science. Twenty-three of Garfield’s publications are highly cited by one or more constellations in at least one of the three decades.
