Artist statement: "Mark making tools are a series of scalpel blade handles with guards to govern the depth of the incision during scarification procedures. The form of each handle reflects the Baroque curves produced in the cutting. The installation incapsulates film footage of the making of the mark makers as well as the mark makers in use, cutting skin. Elements have been hijacked from medicine and information technology in a work that narrates how the mark making tools were made - by hand. The maker's hands inscribe the tools, manifesting a posture that is transferred to the scribe and finally into the skin.".Copyright of the artist.
