Progressive hemifacial atrophy is a rare disorder, affecting almost 0.30 percent of the population, characterized by progressive atrophy of some or all tissues on one side of the face, occasionally extending to other parts of the body. First described by Parry in 1825, the disorder is better known as Romberg’s syndrome or Parry- Romberg syndrome.1 The disease is unilateral in 95 percent of cases and can be located on both sides of the body. The process may be bilateral in 5 to 10 percent of cases. Tissues involved include skin, tongue, gingiva, soft palate, cartilage of the nose, ear, subcutaneous fat, larynx, muscle, and bone.
