Autopoiesis and cognition in the game of life Nice tribute to Maturanas and Varelas idea of defining a system as alive when it keeps up its structure and has some boundary which seperates it from the environment. Applying these principles to a very simplicistic artificial system (which is destroyed by virtually any perturbation from the environment and has a 100 percent permeable boundary) is not too helpful. The problems of the concept remain
