However, most of these studies are restricted to fibers that support one spatial mode. Multimode fibers can provide several new nonlinear pathways due to intermodal effects, which makes light propagation through them difficult to understand. But several proposed applications have led to a resurgence in efforts to determine how nonlinearity manifests in multimode fibers.
