Institute of Optics, 1972.The optical transfer function is expanded by means of four different expansions, namely, (i) the power expansion, (ii) the weighted Gaussian expansion, (iii) the series-Gaussian product expansion, and finally, (iv) the orthonormalized expansion. Also the orthonormalized functions are shown to be the Hermite Functions. The relationships between various expansions mentioned above are derived. Also making used of the fact that the Fourier Transform of the Hermite Functions are the Hermite Functions themselves, except for a factor (i)ⁿ, a simple example is worked out
