Plato Schwartz; ten months in orthopedic training at Massachusetts General and the Boston Childrens Hospital; his involvement with the Vermont Clinc (children with poliomyelitis); the return to Rochester and entry into private practice (1939); his involvement with the 19th General Hosp. in Europe during WWII ("a tremendous experience in trauma"); his interest in polio, scoliosis and tuberculosis; the dramatic effect of the introducton of streptomycin and the polio vaccine in the treatment of these disorders (1954); his appointment as chairman of the Dept. of Orthopaedics at the Univ. of Rochester Medical Center (1969), etc
