Such jet processes can be interpreted in terms of interactions of constituents (namely gluons and quarks) that reside within nucleons. Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is the theory that describes the interactions among quarks and gluons. Predictions of the theory are sensitive to the constituent content of hadrons (referred to as the structure functions).
