The objective of the present investigation was to under-stand the problems associated with the production of superfluxed sinter (CaO/SiO2 as high as 3.25) and find out the solution. Laboratory experiments have been carried out to study the sintering behaviour of typical iron ore fines from the captive mines of Bhil.ai Steel Plant (BSI'), India using factorial design of experiments. It has been shown that the sintering indices are markedly influenced by the efficiency of the sintering process and subsequent cooling of sinter. When sintering the mix consisting of too much fine in it, the bed temperature profile broadens.
