Alumina and silica have been analysed in some ores viz. iron ore, Magnesite, sillimanite and kyanite by x-ray. Fluorescence spectrometer employing both fusion technique and briquetted powder technique. Methods of sample preparation for both the techniques have been detailed in this paper and results obtained by these techniques have been compared with that of chemical analysis as found to be in good agreement and suitable for routine analysis of bulk samples with accuracy and speed.
