A vanadium bearing titaniferous magnetite ore from Mayurbhanj district, Orissa, containing 0.97% V2O5. 13.88% TiO2 and 55.44% total iron was used for studies on extraction of vanadium by fluo-solid salt roasting in a 2.54 cm diameter quartz reactor. At optimum roasting temperature of 850°C, a feed with ore: salt ratio of 25: 3 employing-60 + 120 mesh (B.S.S.) size of the ore was roasted for 120 minutes while 60% of vanadium was converted to soluble vanadate. Fluidisation was effected with an air rate of 180 litres per hour with a-60 +120 mesh (B.S.S) size of ore. Leaching of the roasted ore gave rise to liquor free from chromium, aluminium and silica.
