Magnesium based alloys have versatile applications in cathodic protection systems and therefore studies on the corrosion and galvanic behavior of these alloys are still needed. because most of the commercial sacrificial anode are propertiory products. ln the present studies an alloy of composition Mg-6.6AI-2.7Zn was studied. SEM observation indicate that surface attacks are mainly localized. Galvanic corrosion studies indicate that the corrosion rate of Mg alloy (when coupled with steel) decreases with passage of time. This means that the alloy remine stable even after 160 hours
