Makten över reproduktionen : En diskursteoretisk studie av synen på familj och föräldraskap inom reproduktionspolitiken

The purpose of this study is to analyze the biopolitical discourses of family and parenthood in reproduction politics. Further purpose of this study is to examine what kind of political actions are made possible and impossible due to the discourses. The empirical material that this study is based on is the proposition 2017/18:155 Modernare regler om assisterad befruktning och föräldraskap. With the use of a discourse theoretical approach from Laclau and Mouffe the research identified four discourses which were in the best interest of the child, the immoral surrogacy, the natural mother and father and ignorant and unfit parents. Thanks to biopolitical theory the study shows that one dominant theme exists which is that the government encourages a genetic connection between a child and its parent. This affects what types of family constellations that are created since the term family according to the discourses that are discovered in the study rests on the idea of heterosexual duality. It also influences what types of behaviors that are connected to parenthood and impedes a possible political discussion about the legalization of altruistic surrogacy
