Developing Interactive Courseware on Ibn Battuta Journey to Teach Vocabulary of Seventh Grader of SMPN 1 Muncar

Increasing vocabulary mastery in an interesting way is one of the ways that can help students learn English.The purpose of this research is to develop an interactive courseware to teach vocabulary to the students of seventh grader of SMPN 1 Muncar in an interesting and engaging way.This research and development was conducted based on Borg and Gall research model which was modified and consists of nine steps, i.e. (1) information collecting, (2) planning, (3) developing, (4) experts validation, (5) try-out I, (6) revision based on try-out I, (7) try-out II, (8) final product revision, and (9) final product. The modification was attempted because the original method needed 3 try-outs that requires greater amount of time the researcher could not afford.This research and development resulted in an interactive courseware for teaching vocabulary to seventh graders of SMPN 1 Muncar which contains materials about daily needs, greetings, and countable and uncountable nouns. There are 12 interactivities in the courseware which are based on the places Ibn Battuta visited. The interactive courseware was designed for three meetings.The results of the interactive courseware of Ibn Battuta’s journey validation by experts was 90%. The try-out was conducted in seventh grader class of SMPN 1 Muncar. The results of the try-out was 94%. Therefore, the interactive courseware is stated as valid and can be used as one alternative vocabulary teaching media in SMPN 1 Muncar. Based on the results of the study, teachers are expected to take advantage of the media teaching vocabulary. For the students, it is expected that the students can learn English vocabulary well using the interactive courseware. For further development, it is suggested that the next developer innovate the product to be more interesting and interactive
