This study is a literary criticism on the aspect of spirituality of Paulo Coelho’s novel The Alchemist, which extends to highlight social contexts behind the boom of universal spirituality, particularly the Law of Attraction (LoA). The novel’s spiritual messages are matched with LoA. Curiously, the teaching accommodates the pursuit of wealth. Perceived through lenses of Marx’s social behaviour, interference of capitalism can be detected. Commodification of spirituality does actually take place: under the cover of self-empowerment it recruits more and more people to take part in the Capitalism’s scenario
