Peranan guru tingkatan enam dalam membentuk pelajar terarah kendiri dan meningkatkan kemahiran abad ke-21

This article describes the role of the Form Six Secondary School teachers in producing students with self-directed learning skills. Self-directed learning is a strategy to prepare the students for the working world of the 21st century either after school graduation or university graduation. The roles of the 21st century teachers are to help prepare the students in becoming responsible citizens, ready to face the working world and life challenges while helping students pass the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) as well as providing tickets for them to pursue higher education. The goal can be achieved if teachers apply a pedagogical approach directed towards learning focused on the development and improvement of students\u27 skills. Self-directed learning is a learning strategy that is not new but it is still appropriate to be put into practice in the classroom as the skills acquired through self-directed learning are still relevant to the needs of 21st-century life. Self-directed learning serves as a skill acquisition strategy in which students are able and confident to use the skills learned thus engage themselves in as well as further exploring their independent learning skills in the future
