A study on occupational safety and health hazard among lectures of handling lathe machine at mechanical engineering department

This study was done in turning and lathe machine workshop at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Polytechnic of Seberang Perai, Penang. This study refers to the lathe use while teaching in Mechanical Engineering Workshop for Mechanical Workshop Practice courses. Polytechnic is an educational institution that offers certificate and diploma level the field of engineering. In addition, it is also a skill-based training to the field of engineering students. The primary objective of this study to identify the factors of safety hazards and health and the working environment , to evaluate the risks and hazards in the workshop turning, the level of awareness and sensitivity of the affected users on the aspects of Occupational Health and Safety and improvement measures . The method used in this study refers to the process of risk assessment to implement the classification of activities, job hazard analysis (JHA),HIRARC, determine the level of risk in a quantitative risk assessment and peers review documents. Result of this study, it was found, there are two safety hazards and health are critical and need to be addressed for improvement. In addition, the percentage of consumers\u27 awareness of occupational safety and health hazards rising to 90 per cent and awareness of aspects of the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is also increased to 90 percent
