Comperehensive performance measurement system of football players : an exploratory factor analysis

This study aims to identify the dimensions in the Comprehensive Performance Measurement System (CPMS) questionnaire from the perspective of the football players. To date, there is yet to be an empirical study on the dimension of CPMS, especially in soccer involving football players. As many as 330 proffessional football players from Malaysia Super League and Premier League were involved in this study. This study employs the CPMS instrument constructed in the sports sector by giving focus towards football players. Total Variance Explained shows that only 1 component (factor) give eigen values greater than 1. Through the Rotated Sums of Squared Loadings analysis, only one component predict as much as 56.98% of the overall change of variance (CPMS). Other eight components contributed 43.02% of the variance of the variable of CPMS. The result of an exploratory factor analysis show that the nine-item scale is unidimensional, with each item loading on the single factor above 0.70. The study outcome also finds that the descriptive analysis for the mean value for nine items of the comprehensive performance measurement system is rather high, between the mean value of 4.16 and 3.89. This shows that the performance information in the CPMS is always accounted for by the state clubs or football associations, to ensure that the football players stay at the best performance level
