Solar energy options for saving water

About 70% of the Earth is covered with water. Of the total water available on earth surface i.e. 1,400,000,000 km3, 97.2% is ocean saltwater and a mere 2.8% is fresh water, which includes rivers, lakes, and groundwater. Of this freshwater 2.380% is in the form of icecaps, 0.397% is ground water 0.022% as surface water. Freshwater is needed for drinking, farming, and washing. Water is a precious commodity necessary for our survival. Dehydration (lack of water) will kill us faster than starvation (lack of food). Since the plants and animals we eat also depend on water, lack of it could cause both dehydration and starvation. Water that looks drinkable can contain harmful elements, which could cause illness and death if ingested. In the future, few things will be more important such as ample supplies of clean water to ensure economic success, good health and political stability across the globe. Every day solar and wind energy systems are saving billions of liters of clean water around the world and the opportunity exists to save much more water. Depending on location, a 100-watt solar panel will save 8,000-12,000 liters of water over the 25-year warrantee life of the panel.This paper presents the solar options for saving the valuable water resource
