As part of the Imbak Canyon Scientific Expedition in May 2004, this study focused on the Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies) of the rainforest in the area. For moths, 156 species were sampled comprising 286 individuals. The diversity index, as measured using Williams Alpha, was 140.47 + 29.13. For butterflies, a total of 72 species and 133 individuals was recorded. The biodiversity of the area, as indicated by moths and butterflies, was representative of lowland rainforests in Borneo. However, moth diversity of the unlogged forest in Imbak was much higher compared to that of heavily logged forest. There was also a number of rare and endemic species, which calls for protection status of the Imbak Canyon
