Word Formation on The Jakarta Posts Health Insurance articles: A Structural Morphology Analysis

The writer analyzes the word formation to selected words which are found in The Jakarta Post?s articles. It is also classifies the types of word formation. Moreover, it is aimed to make people understand word formation and know how to guess a meaning of new words without look up into dictionary. This research is analyzes by qualitative descriptive method. , by analysing and describing the corpus that use in the newspaper, it is related to study of words formation in morphology. The data are collected using bibliography technique by collecting, reading analyzing, comparing and specify the kind of word formation rules. Furthermore, the writer is focused and limited to word formation word in The Jakarta Post?s health insurance articles in January ? April 2014. The writer also analyses and classifies the types of words such as derivation, inflection, compound, clipping, etc. the writer use a random sampling in analyses the data. However, not all the types of word formation occur in the data analysis. From eleven types, there are five which do not found in the research. There are blending, back formation, coinage, de novo, acronyms and borrowing. The writer found 13 inflective, 13 derivatives, 16 compounds, 5 initialisms, and 1 clipping. There is several meaning of derivatives which are visible to be guessed just by looking to the meaning of the base word; clinics is one example of this case. The word clinics found in the article is does not listed in dictionary because the dictionary does not listed the plural, however, the meaning can be guessed just by seeing the base word.
