The phrase teacher supervision and evaluation provokes a variety of emotional responses on the part of teachers. For some, it gives rise to pleasant, even invigorating memories of well-designed and well supported learning opportunities that resulted in a renewed sense of professionalism and improved teaching and learning. For others, the memories are hostile, unfair, negative judgments made by administrators who appeared to have, at best, a superficial understanding of the teacher's work
