The translation procedures and their meaning equivalence in subtitle of film despicable me

In this research, the writer concerns with translation study, that is, the translation procedures of subtitle in Despicable Me. The objectives of the research are: (1) to figure out what kind of translation procedures that are used in subtitle of film Despicable Me, (2) to know how to get the meaning equivalence between source language (SL) and target language (TL) in that film subtitle. The writer uses qualitative method. The writer explains some theories of translation procedures terms, and then the writer collects the data by watching the movie and reading the script, marking the words, classifying, selecting, and analyzing them based on the theories of translation procedure which is taken from some relevant references. As the result of the research, the writer concludes that translation procedures used in the subtitle of film Despicable Me can be classified into transposition, adaptation, modulation, cultural equivalent, reduction, and naturalization. And the meaning in this subtitle is equivalent; the most frequently equivalence applied is pragmatic equivalence. Finally, the writer wants this research to be useful for all of the readers, especially the students of English Letters Department. The writer also expects to all the readers and students to enrich their knowledge about translation procedures
