ABSTRACT Akbar Caesario Nugroho, Modulation In the English-Indonesian Translation of the Novel Lipstick Jungle. A Thesis: Faculty of Adab and Humanities, the State Islamic University, January 2011. This research is aimed at finding the modulation types in the English-Indonesian translation cases in Lipstick Jungle?s novel, chapter two. The writer studied the Lipstick Jungle?s novel as a unit analysis anzd used modulation theory of Newmark and Vinay et.al. as the theoretical framework of the research. The writer hopes that his analysis of modulation translation can help and give more information to anyone who interest to be a good translator. To analyze the data, the writer uses the qualitative � descriptive method by reading the original book and compared to its translation. Then he looks up a reliable thesaurus to finds out whether the translation is correct or not. The writer also collects the data from many sources such as book, internet and others that are related to the research, presenting the data description, analyzing the problem and then making conclusion
