Taching writing recount text by using task based learning (A classroom Action research in second year of SMP Nusantara North Jakarta)

This research is conducted in order to improve students? understanding of writing �recount text? by using task based learning at Class VIII-1 SMP Nusantara, North Jakarta. In conducting this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of research. She taught writing �recount text? at class VIII-1 SMP Nusantara. This research consisted of two cycles. Cycle 1 consisted of three meetings and cycle 2 consisted of two meetings (the test was not included in the meeting). The researcher conducted this research for one month and three weeks. To collect the data, the researcher used observation, interview, and tests (pre-test and post-tests). The result of this research shows that using task based learning in writing recount text at class VIII-1 SMP Nusantara can improve their understanding of writing recount text. The students felt that the teaching learning activities were fun and interesting. Moreover, the students? achievements in pre-test and post-test show a good progress. The mean of pre-test is 55.42, and there were only two students who passed the KKM or 6.06%. The mean of the post-test 1 is 63.78, and there were 14 students who passed the KKM or 42.42% of the students who passed the KKM. In cycle II, the students? score improved significantly, the mean score of post-test 2 is 78.09, and the number of students who passed the KKM is 33 or 100%. So, there is 93.94% improvement of the students? percentage of pre-test (6.06%) to post-test 2 score (100%). From this result, the researcher concluded that teaching writing recount text by using task based learning at class VIII-1 of SMP Nusantara was effective to improve students understanding of writing recount text, because it has achieved the target of Classroom Action Research, which is 75%
