An analysis on grammatical errors in simple present tense on students' descriptive writing (A case study at *th grade of SMP Binadidaktika)

The objective of the research are; 1) To find the grammatical errors in simple present tense that commonly made by the eighth grade students of SMP BINADIDAKTIKA in writing descriptive text, 2) To investigate the influence of errors that commonly caused in writing descriptive. The method uses in this research is the qualitative method and statistical descriptive analytic to find the result. The result of the research show the errors that made by the students are; Omission of be (6.73%), using of punctuation (-3.31%), capitalization (-9.59%), wrong use of singular and plural form (-5.40%), addition of be (-3.40%), Unsuitable between singular subject and verb (23.05%), wrong order (9.66%), unsuitable between subject and auxiliary (-2.89%), omission of verb (-9.59%), wrong form of negative sentences (-8.75%), unsuitable between auxiliary and verb (-6.66%). The most dominant error problem particularly in unsuitable between singular subject and verb dealing with suffix �s/-es from the verb of singular subjects, the proportion of the errors is 23.05%. The most dominant influence of errors of the student was intra language causes, the possible causes of errors are overgeneralization (intra language), and also the interference of mother tongue (inter language). These finding indicates that the students? competence to write descriptive text in using simple past tense was quite low. It can be proved from the students? result in writing descriptive essay. Therefore, the teacher needs to focus in writing activity to improve students? skill in writing descriptive te
