Learners? language needs analysis of english subject in Azkia integrated islamic primary school (A descriptive study of learners? language needs analysis of english subject in Azkia integrated islamic primary school)

Based on Permendiknas No. 22/2006 on content standard, one of the objectives of teaching English in primary school is the pupils have an ability to develop competencies in the form of limited verbal communication to accompany the action in the context of school. In this paper, the writer analyzed the objective in order to fulfill the pupils? needs in learning English. The objective of this study is to get a descriptive report about the pupils? needs to achieve the objective of teaching English in primary school. Referring to the objective of the study, it describes pupils? needs in the learning-centered approach which is divided into the target needs and the learning needs. The method used in this study is qualitative method which uses phenomenology approach. The data were collected from classroom observations, interviews, and documentary analysis. After the data collected, the writer analyzed and classified the research findings into the target needs and the learning needs. From the findings of the study, it can be concluded that the pupils? needs which have to be fulfilled are: introducing English in early age is the objective of teaching English in primary school, activities in English subject class and coping English language in their daily lives are the situations needed in learning and using English, using familiar topics and focusing on vocabulary building are the contents or materials that have to be taught, focusing on developing English vocabularies to support the pupils in developing English language competencies is the want in learning English, providing a wide range of tools that enable the pupils to meet the English language in their daily lives and creating various and fun activities can overcome the difficulties found in teaching and learning English, pupils can learn better from the environment around them and learn English language easily from the concrete things or the visualization of the concrete things, the utilization of visual aids optimally can facilitate the pupils to learn English easier, the English teaching should be effectively with the available sources used by the teacher, the teaching methodology which appeals to the pupils is using visual illustration and physical movement while explaining the English material, and the explanation without giving concrete examples and lack of variety in teaching English are the teaching techniques that need to be avoide
