The Attitudes toward Learning English Based on Extrovert and Introvert Personality Types; An Ex-post Facto Study at the Eleventh Grade Students of SMAS Terpadu Darul ?Amal Academic Year 2014/2015

Skripsi which entitles The Attitudes toward Learning English Based on Extrovert and Introvert Personality Types aimed to analyze and find out the empirical evidence of the difference of attitudes toward learning English between extrovert and introvert personality types. Data were collected through two kinds of questionnaires measuring attitudes and personality types. The questionnaire on attitudes was adapted from Attitudes/Motivation Test Battery (AMTB) developed by Gardner and another one on personality types was adapted from Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) developed by Myers and Briggs. The two questionnaires were distributed to the 63 eleventh grade students of a private senior high school in Sukabumi, West Java. Next, the data were analyzed by using Independent- Sample T-Test. The findings arrive at a conclusion that there is no significant difference between attitudes toward learning English of extrovert and introvert personality types at value of t 2.13. The insignificant difference was found at 95% level of confidence (p>0.05) and 99% level of confidence (p>0.01). This finding was corroborated by a study conducted by Lee (2005) who observed variables closely related to the variables of the present study. He reported that personality types had no significant association with attitudes toward classroom participation. Nevertheless, he employed different research design from the present study; in this case he used a correlational design, whereas a comparative design was employed in the present study; moreover, the Lee?s study emphasized on the attitudes toward classroom participation, whereas the present study more focused on attitudes toward learning English.
