An analysis on the grammatical errors in the students' recount text writing

The aim of this study is to describe the objective condition about students� error in recount text writing at the first grade �SMAN 57 Jakarta�. Based on that purpose the writer intends to answer this question �What errors are usually made by first grade students at SMAN 57 Jakarta in writing recount text test?.� And ��Why did the students make errors in their writing?��. In doing this study the writer uses descriptive analysis method. She analyzes the students� English writing to find out the kinds of errors the students� made. English has four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Based on the writer observation, some students have difficulties in writing their ideas on paper. The writer found some errors made by students in their recount text writing. The ��Skripsi�� is conducted to analyze the common errors in singular-plural, word choice, verb tense, word order, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and article. The writer analyzes 10 samples and found most students made errors in their writing. The writer discovers 14 errors in the use of singular-plural, word choice 62, verb tense 77, word order 9, spelling 26, punctuation 68, capitalization 109, and article 4. In conclusion, the errors that made by the first grade �SMAN 57 Jakarta� were caused by interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer and context of learning. In conclusion, the students of the first grade SMAN 57 Jakarta is still confused in writing the recount text in term of singular-plural, word choice, verb tense, word order, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and article. Therefore, the English teachers should analyze the errors of students� writing to get more inputs for the students� mastery of target language and provide students a sufficient knowledge about grammar to prevent students making the same error in the future
