Hierarchy of Human Needs Analysis to the Main Character in The Soloist Film

This research is aimed at finding out the main character self-actualization of The Soloist film. The writer analyzes the characteristics of the main character. This characteristics influences the character himself in fulfilling the needs. The writer identifies the character?s characteristics and problems of the main character which revealed along his journey to get his self-actualization. In this research, the writer uses qualitative method and descriptive analysis technique to analyze the film. The writer also does some procedures to do this research, such as watching the film intensively, identifying the characteristics of the main character, identifying the main character?s need, analyzing the data by correlating them with Hierarchy of Human Needs by Abraham Maslow?s theory and finally capturing the picture of the film and takes the scripts which related one. This research discussed characteristics of the main character, Steve Lopez which influenced himself in fulfilling the needs. His characteristics took an important role so that he can fulfill the needs that lead him to self-actualization. Abraham Maslow?s Theory which is classified into five levels, they are: Physiological Needs, Safety Needs, Love or Belongingness Needs, Esteem Needs and Self- Actualization Needs. Even there are some obstacle that he faces but he can get through it to fulfill the needs from the lowest level to the highest level. Finally, the main character accomplishes all of five level of needs and get selfactualization
